Housemaid Jailed For Stealing Underwear

 

 A 20-year-old housemaid has bagged two months prisons term for stealing her mistress’s underwear and other personal effect.

The domestic servant who was simply identified as Vivian was sentenced by an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court. Vivian who is placed on a N20, 000 monthly salary by boss, Bisis Awoniyi, and a day off duty per week was said to be preparing to observe her off duty day on September 9.

Out of curiosity, Awoniyi decided to search her housemaid’s bag before leaving. To her surprise, she discovered her face towels in the maid’s bag promptly her to conduct further search.

Awoniyi found her other valuables which included night wears and several pieces of underwear. Probing further, she also discovered that Vivian has three newly opened bank accounts.

The matter was reported to Dolphin police station, Ikoyi where the suspect was arrested and later arraigned. When police conducted a search on where Vivian stayed led to the discoveries of more stolen items.

The suspect was subsequently charged to court on one count of stealing where she pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate, A.G, Omoyele, sentenced her to two months’ imprisonment.

Meanwhile, The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) had intervened in a case of domestic violence that had been perpetrated for over 25 years by a man on his wife.

DSVT disclosed that the victim family exposed the issue to the media. The victim, Oridola Oladele aged 63 was contacted by the agency where her rights was communicated to her.
