Cape Town All Stars remained top of the National First Division despite suffering a 2-0 loss at home to AmaZulu on Sunday, while Baroka FC moved to within a point of the leaders after a massive win on Saturday.
All Stars came into the tenth round of the season looking to continue their strong form, but they came unstuck at Athlone Stadium against a determined Usuthu who scored their goals through Nkanyiso Zungu and Goodman Dlamini.
Sunday’s other matches saw Mbombela United return to winning form with a 2-1 home victory over FC Cape Town thanks to goals from Siyathemba Mnguni and Sifiso Thomo, while a Cape Town derby saw Vasco Da Gama go down 1-0 at the hands of Milano United, with Coldrin Coetzee scoring the only goal at Parow Park.
Baroka FC find themselves just a point off the top of the log after they crushed African Warriors 6-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. A hat-trick from Nkosinathi Ndlovu, a brace from Thabiso Kutumelo and Loyiso Simandla solitary strike ensured the Limpopo side return to top form after taking just a point from their previous two matches.
Saturday’s other matches saw a big win for Royal Eagles, who crushed Witbank Spurs 3-0 to see the Mpumalanga side drop to third on the log, while Highlands Park ensured Mthatha Bucks remain winless after beating the Eastern Cape side 2-0.
Cape Town’s Santos proved too strong for Black Leopards, winning 2-1 at Athlone Stadium thanks to Suhayl Allie’ s brace, while Thanda Royal Zulu and Moroka Swallows played out the only draw of the weekend, tying 2-2 at Umhlathuze Sports Complex.
